Chenghai Toy Sourcing Data 2026: MOQ Bands, Container Volume & Lead Times by Category

If you already source toys from China, you don’t need another explainer on what an Incoterm is. What you usually can’t get from a supplier website is the operational data you need before you ask for a quote: realistic MOQ bands per category, how each category eats container volume, and where lead times actually sit once the factory is loaded.

This page is the internal reference we use when quoting buyers from Chenghai. Figures are from our own live catalogue and get confirmed line-by-line on every quote.

MOQ bands by category — what factories here actually accept

CategoryTypical MOQ per SKUNotes that matter
Battery operated / R–C120–360 pcsMotor and PCB tooling sits in the factory, so low runs are viable. Battery configuration must be fixed at quote stage.
Educational / STEM / DIY120–500 pcsBand widens with item size. Printed components (cards, boards, manuals) push the floor up.
Dolls & plushVinyl 180–500 · Plush 300–600Plush MOQ is driven by fabric roll minimums, not assembly. Fabric colour changes reset the count.
Summer inflatables500–1000 pcs per designHighest MOQ of any category — PVC welding setup dominates cost.
Water blasters (electric)120–360 pcsBehaves like B/O, not like inflatables. Often mistakenly grouped with summer.

The number that actually moves: in a mixed container these floors drop. Factories care about total run value across your order, not per-SKU heroics. Buyers who commit to a full 40HQ across four or five categories routinely get quoted below the bands above.

Where each category eats your container

A 40HQ gives you roughly 68 CBM of usable space. For toys, sea freight is volumetric — you will hit the volume ceiling long before the weight limit. Which means the real cost driver is not the unit price, it’s how efficiently each carton packs.

CategoryVolume behaviourHow experienced buyers use it
Inflatables (deflated)Compresses hardClassic filler — rides along with dense cartons at near-zero marginal freight
Micro building blocksVery denseAnchor cargo. Pairs well with bulky play sets
Diecast / friction vehiclesDenseSame role as blocks
Large play sets, ride-onsVolume-hungryCap these or they consume the container
PlushBulky, lightCompressed packing available — ask before assuming the carton spec

Two orders with identical unit prices can land 15–20% apart purely on packing efficiency. That is why every line we quote carries carton dimensions, CBM, gross/net weight and units per carton — the fields your forwarder and your 3PL will ask for anyway.

Lead times, and what actually delays them

CategoryProduction lead time
Battery operated / R–C25–40 days after confirmation, size-dependent
Educational / STEM25–40 days after order confirmation
Summer / inflatables25–35 days production, plus sea transit
Ex-stock samples3–7 days

Those are clean-run numbers. In practice the delays cluster in three places, none of which are the production line itself:

  • Testing turnaround. EN 71 or ASTM F963 at SGS/BV/TÜV adds 7–14 days if the SKU has no valid report. Reusable on repeat orders — worth confirming which of your items already have current reports before you re-test.
  • Artwork sign-off. Custom window boxes and hang tags routinely add a week of back-and-forth. Lock artwork before production, not during.
  • Peak season queue. August through October, Chenghai lines fill for Christmas. The same SKU that quotes 25 days in March quotes 40+ in September. Book three weeks earlier than you think you need.

Trading company vs factory — the honest version

You already know the pitch from both sides. The operational reality:

Single factoryChenghai trading company

Mixed containerRarely possibleStandard
Unit price on a single deep SKUUsually lowerSlightly higher
Consolidation, QC, one invoiceYou coordinateHandled

If you’re running 50,000 pcs of one item, go direct to the factory — you’ll win on price and you don’t need us. If you’re building an assortment across categories in one shipment, the coordination cost of managing six factories usually exceeds the margin you’d save.

We’re a trading company in Chenghai (Shantou, Guangdong), established 2018, amfori BSCI member. We’re not a factory and don’t claim to be.

What a quote from us contains

  • FOB Shantou or Shenzhen, line by line
  • Carton dimensions, CBM, gross and net weight, units per carton
  • MOQ per item, and what changes in a mixed container
  • Production lead time — the real one, not the sales one
  • Which certificate each item needs for your market

FAQ

What is the realistic minimum order for a mixed container from Chenghai?

A 20′ container works as an entry point across three or four categories. Below that, per-SKU MOQ floors start dominating and the freight cost per unit rises sharply. Most first orders we handle are one 40HQ across four to six categories.

Can you quote against a competitor’s product photo?

Yes, and it’s the fastest way to get a comparable number. Send the image or listing link; we identify the equivalent item in the cluster and quote it with full carton data. If the spec differs (material, weight, motor, packaging) we say so rather than quoting a cheaper item as a match.

How far ahead should I book for Christmas stock?

Orders confirmed by late June ship comfortably. July to August confirmations are still workable but lead times stretch. From September, you’re competing with everyone else for the same lines.

Do you handle OEM packaging and private label?

Yes — window boxes, hang tags, multilingual packaging, custom sound chips on most B/O lines. Artwork sign-off is the usual bottleneck; lock it before production starts.
